Seeing more clearly about point of view!

The world is full of unique people with unique opinions, ideas, and what they value in life. In relationships and interactions we can at times view our own point or belief to be right. But is it right or is it just what's right to/for you? In feeling that we're right without considering that the person we're engaging with feels just as right in their belief or opinion, it leads to communicating without understanding, conflict, and defending our views. While doing this we might hear the other person but fail to listen to what their saying and why. Our opinions and beliefs are formed mostly around our upbringing and life experiences. For example, a person who grew up in a home witnessing a great deal of conflict between their parents may view marriage as unnecessary or an undesirable concept while someone who grew up in a loving home with parents who demonstrated love and understanding between one another would likely view marriage in a more positive light. Neither of their ideas are wrong, but viewed as wrong to each other. Rather than be a right fighter in regards to your views, consider where the other person is coming from and share your opinion in a respectful way, while showing understanding for theirs. The same thing happens between couples often. Our partner may feel justified in thier actions or that their actions and choices were harmless, but if our partner expresses that they were hurt by these actions, listen to why they are feeling hurt or why they might view it differently and express understanding rather than taking a defensive stance. This allows for healthy communication, compassion for our partner and thier feelings, and leads to quick resolution. Trying to understand another persons point of view, why they feel they way the do, and how their experiences shaped these beliefs leads to personal growth - and mental and emotional growth is always a good thing!!!
